Why light grey is the stock colour

Every wide-span section is held in one colour. That is a manufacturing decision with a practical side effect: grey is the finish that ages best on a door at street level.

The wide-span sections are held in a single stock colour, a light grey. Holding one colour is what makes a same-week replacement slat possible on a door fitted four years ago; a wider stock palette would mean either longer lead times or a colour that no longer matches.

It happens to be the right default for other reasons. Grey is the finish that hides the dust and rain streaking a door at street level collects, and it is neutral against almost any elevation material — rendered, glazed, brick or steel.

Anything outside the stock colour is a coated-to-order item on the same line, with the lead time that implies. That is a real choice on a frontage, and a poor one on an industrial door where a damaged slat has to be replaced quickly.
