Hand-operated steel shutters

A hand-pulled steel shutter is a different product from a motorised aluminium one, and it is chosen for reasons that have nothing to do with budget.

A hand-operated steel shutter is rolled steel on a barrel, lifted by hand or by chain. It is often assumed to be the cheap version of a motorised door. Sometimes it is; more often it is chosen for a reason.

Those reasons are specific: an opening with no power at it, a store or kiosk opened and closed once a day, a site where a motor would be the first thing stolen, or a door that has to work through a power failure with no back-up to maintain.

Steel is heavier than aluminium and it corrodes where aluminium does not, so it needs coating and it needs the coating maintained. Against that, it takes impact that would deform an aluminium slat, which is why it survives in yards and loading bays.
